Sure. Technically it's legal. But I'm saying they need to shut up about our attempts to get people on the side of marriage equality. They are accusing the "no on 8 side" of doing the same things they already did!
Please point out where that LA Film or Sacramento Theatre Director were offered that choice BEFORE being targeted. Subway was specifically NOT targeted because of what you called "extortion". For the record, actual extortion is illegal and should not be condoned by either side.
Actually, sending out a letter (as the Yes on 8 campaign did) telling them to support your side by giving an equal amount (or suffer the consequences) is a lot closer to extortion than Protesting someone for contributing to Yes on 8.
yes extortion is illegal. What the Yes on 8 campaign did was closer to blackmail. What the No on 8 campaign is doing now is exercising their rights as consumers to protest people they disagree with.
Here in California "Extortion" is defined as "the obtaining of property from another, with his consent, or the obtaining of an official act of a public officer, induced by a wrongful use of force or fear, or under color of official right." "Blackmail" is specifically extortion by threatening another person's reputation or organization with the disclosure of harmful or secret information that would be damaging to that person if released. The information to be released may be true or false. The disclosure of the information does not have to be criminal nor does the offender actually have to receive money or property for the act to be considered extortion.
There has been at least one assault in Palm Springs, that I have witnessed myself, as well as vandalism and church disruptions. I am not aware of either side guilty of the other crimes (yet).

I don't recall any organized efforts to get people fired or even actual assaults by "Yes on 8" people on your side.
Also, I doubt that anyone targeted for organized retaliation by your side was offered the opportunity to make a donation in an equal amount.
They have been asked to make a contribution to the No on 8 side - and some have - Like Subway. So yes - the choice has been given.
